Metro Codes Warns of Uncertified Conduit on Job Sites

June 12, 2024
A notice has been issued to contractors registered in Davidson County.

Per a recent release from nashville.gov, 2024 Metro Codes Assistant Director for Building and Trades Shannon Roberts issued the following notice to contractors registered in Davidson County.

Metro Codes electrical inspectors are increasingly encountering unlisted PVC conduit usage on job sites. All conduit used in construction in Davidson County must bear an approved product stamp and be listed by the National Electrical Code. Any electrical wiring or equipment that does not meet stamp and listing requirements will fail inspection until replaced with an approved product.

Article 110.21(A) of the National Electrical Code requires that equipment markings must include manufacturer's name, trademark, or other descriptive marking by which the organization responsible for the product can be identified. Other markings that indicate voltage, current, wattage, or other ratings shall be provided, and the markings shall be of sufficient durability to withstand the environment involved.

Roberts encourages contractors to verify that all materials used in construction bear the required markings showing that the components meet the required safety regulations.

The Department of Codes and Building Safety is vested with the duty of administering the Metro Building Code and its safety regulations to ensure the structural integrity of residential and commercial structures in Davidson County.

For more information regarding these standards, contact Metro Codes Electrical Inspection Chief Jeremy Barber at 615-862-6575 or [email protected]
