Hurricane Ian, one of the strongest hurricanes to ever make landfall in Florida, remains a threat to millions of Floridians after barreling ashore Wednesday afternoon near Fort Myers as a catastrophic, high-end Category 4 storm packing sustained winds of 150 mph, torrential rain, unprecedented storm surge, and tornadoes.
The devastating storm has left millions of Florida residents without power. However, thanks to the tireless efforts of local utilities, more than 1 million Florida Power & Light Company customers – just over 50% of those affected by Hurricane Ian – have already been restored as FPL begins restoration work after the devastating storm exited Florida.
EC&M's sister publication, T&D World, continues to follow this developing story from a power outage and restoration standpoint. Visit the links below for more information on Hurricane Ian and relief efforts to restore power to those affected.
