During the PowerTest 25 conference hosted by NETA, the InterNational Electrical Testing Association, in Orlando, Fla., from March 11-15, 2025, EC&M Editor-in-Chief Ellen Parson got the chance to interview subject matter experts on a variety of topics. In this video, filmed on March 11, Ellen talked with Alex Chausovsky, director of analytics and consulting at Bundy Group. A highly experienced market researcher and analyst, Alex has more than two decades of expertise across subjects including economics, manufacturing, automation, advanced technology trends, and business cycle analysis.

In the interview, they discuss some of the highlights from Alex's PowerTest 25 keynote address, entitled "Economic and Labor Market Update – What to Expect in 2025 and Beyond," including:

    • Time-sensitive economic events of concern, such as inflation, interest rates, tariffs, immigration, labor market conditions, consumer spending, business investment, and industrial activity.
    • The possible impact of President Trump's agenda on tax cuts, immigration and tariff policies.
    • Concrete advice on how to navigate the current macroeconomic climate and plan for the future.
    • Tools that company leadership can use to become better data-driven decision makers in running their businesses and developing strategic plans.

Although the current Administration has gone back and forth of tariffs several times since the conference was held, including the latest act on April 9 when Trump announced a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs on all countries but China, which was hit with a 145% duty, this interview certainly sheds light on some of the potential ramifications that could result from tariff policy changes and implementation.
