Google to Invest $9.5 Billion in U.S. Data Centers and Offices in 2022

Recent announcement of funds to add to more $37 billion investment over the last five years

According to an update in Electrical Wholesaling, a sister publication to EC&M, CEO of Google (a wholly owned subsidiary of Alphabet) Sundar Pichai offered what has become an annual update on the company’s recent construction plans and progress. In his April 13 post on the company’s website, he said:

“In the U.S., over the past five years, we’ve invested more than $37 billion in our offices and data centers in 26 states, creating over 40,000 full-time jobs. That’s in addition to the more than $40 billion in research and development we invested in the U.S. in 2020 and 2021.”

Pichai went on to announce plans to invest approximately $9.5 billion in the company’s U.S. offices and data centers this year as well as create at least 12,000 new full-time Google jobs by year’s end.
