For three years, Austin Stroup took a building trades class, where he was exposed to masonry, woodworking, plumbing, roofing, and electrical. As the son of a mechanic, he was inspired to work with his hands in the trades. Ultimately, the electrical field captured his interest. Once he graduated, he embraced the opportunity to work at a residential electrical company and gain a year of on-the-job training. He then joined the team at SECCO Electric, where he is working during the fourth year of his apprenticeship.

“I have learned so much about our field,” says Stroup, who was born and raised in the small town of Mount Pleasant Mills, Pa. “I also gained an immense amount of knowledge from my coworkers, which molded me into the electrician I am today.”

In his role as a small project foreman at his company, he is learning more and more every day as he is faced with new and different challenges on the job.

As an electrical foreman, he enjoys ordering material and marking up prints. Currently, his company is working on a medical office building in Hanover, Pa. In the future, he plans to be able to work on larger projects and become more knowledgeable with the National Electrical Code. He would also like to earn his master’s electrical license.

“I will work hard and learn as much as I can to achieve my goals,” Stroup says.

From day one with SECCO Electric, Stroup has shown complete dedication and motivation, says Bruce Seilhammer, ECS group manager and IEC national past president.

“He has proven himself many times by always being ready to put in the long hours and weekends when the jobs required it,” he says. “We are very proud to have Austin on our team.”
