2020’s 30 Under 30 EC&M Electrical All Stars: Randy Qario

May 21, 2020

Randy Qario
Job Title: Electrician-Foreman
Company: Power Design, Inc.
Location: Brighton, Colo.
Age: 29
Years on the Job: 4
Interests: Snowboarding, working on home projects, camping, four-wheeling in the mountains, traveling to Europe with his fiancé, and living by the motto, “work hard, play harder”

Born in Iraq and raised in Jordan and Syria, Randy Qario moved to the United States when he was 18. As the son of an electrician, he decided to give the electrical trade a try. He then entered a four-year apprenticeship program in Denver and successfully completed his 30-hour OSHA training. He also made sure to ask questions and he stayed after work to see inspections.

“My training helped to prepare me by teaching me how to stay safe on the job, how to follow code so we can do things correct the first time, and how to use tools properly for the right job,” he says.

He is now teaching himself how to read plans and perform layouts while studying for his master’s electrician exam.

“Power Design is proud to recognize Randy as a two-time finalist in the Ideal National Championship competition,” says Raelani Heleman of Power Design, Inc. “He turned in the top apprentice qualifying time in his state to earn his spot in the finals twice.”

The competition, however, didn’t stop there. Each year Power Design hosts an internal wire-off competition called “Tough Rougher,” and in 2019, Qario was part of the winning team.

“They have traveled to see me compete and cheered me on,” he says. “This motivates me to be a hard worker.”

To power the future, he hopes to one day move up higher in his company and help recruit a larger group of apprentices in Colorado. To reach this goal, he plans to push himself to the limit and “live the dream.”

“Nothing gets handed to you on a silver plate — you must set goals for yourself and make sure you accomplish them,” he says. “With hard work and loving what you do, it will make you shine and inspire other people with you.”
