Involvement in the electrical construction industry is a family affair for Ed “James” Haberkorn. His grandfather started Dynamic Electric, an industrial electrical construction company, in 1968 after working for years as an electrician. His father and uncle then took over the reins and helped to grow the company significantly.

“The men I looked up to were all involved in the industry, so I naturally gravitated toward it,” Haberkorn says. “Now, the new generation is coming up, and I’m lucky enough to work with my brother and several cousins.”

Haberkorn grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago, and as soon as he was old enough, he was encouraged to get a job. Before long, he was working in the warehouse of the company shop, loading trucks, organizing materials, and repairing tools. As time went on, he was given more responsibility, and he eventually found himself helping with project estimating in the office.

After attending college at Marquette University in Milwaukee and being hired by the local power company, he decided to return home and help with the family business. Currently, his time is split between the field and the office. In the office, he designs power control systems for projects and pursues new industries and clients. In the field, he manages installation, quality control, and client interfacing. Because the company works in many different industries, including solar, Haberkorn is able to see a lot of different projects in the field.

“In a given day, I could be in a chemical plant, an automated distribution warehouse, and wind up in a data center,” Haberkorn says. “The exposure to differing industries and processes is the part of the job I would say I enjoy the most. It’s great to have a little variety in your day to day.”
