Summer breaks at the College of Wooster gave Henry Anderson the opportunity to earn real-world experience as an intern for JE Richards. During that time, he gained an avid interest in the construction industry.

“I learned a lot from some seasoned foremen who had spent more than a decade growing with the company on some really unique and challenging projects,” says Anderson, who grew up in Alexandria, Va.

He also learned about the world of construction from his father, who worked as a general contractor in the Washington, D.C., area and as a construction client representative/consultant. Anderson’s dad encouraged him to take a construction trade class in high school, where he earned his first OSHA 10 certification and learned numerous basic construction skills. In college, however, his studies took a different route as he pursued a bachelor’s degree in political science with a focus in international relations. In support of his master’s degree at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, Anderson performed a statistical analysis of project procurement methods and project outcomes.

As assistant project manager, he is learning from the electricians at his company and is continuing to be challenged and trusted with responsibility. During his time with JE Richards, he has supported data center projects from both the purchasing and processing side. In addition, he has worked with some of the clients and safety professionals to develop lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures to meet the complexity of the data centers. Eventually, he would like to grow with his company and move into a project management role. To reach this goal, he plans to continue in the departmental rotational system and further his education with more coursework.

“JE Richards continues to invest in my training and education, and I would like to invest myself in them,” Anderson says.
