Journeyman-Electrician Bill Approved by Michigan House

A Michigan House vote recently approved legislation that would increase the opportunities for apprentices to learn and train to be journeyman electricians. Michigan House Bill 4813 was authored by State Rep. Amanda Price.

The bill revises details of a law that requires a person to accumulate 8,000 hours as an apprentice before he or she can get a state license to independently earn a living as an electrician. The bill would change a current restriction that limits a licensed electrician to having just one apprentice, by increasing this to three apprentices.

The revised electrician licensure mandate detail passed 58-49. HB 4813 will advance to the Michigan Senate for consideration.
