Q. What are the Code requirements for GFCI protection of receptacles and equipment at carnivals, circuses, and fairs?

A. GFCI-Protected Receptacles and Equipment [Sec. 525.23(A)]

(A) GFCI Protection Required. In addition to the requirements of Sec. 210.8(B), GFCI protection must be provided for the following: 

      (1)  15A and 20A, 125V nonlocking‑type receptacles readily accessible to the general public or used for disassembly and reassembly of amusement rides and attractions.

      (2)  Equipment readily accessible to the general public if it is supplied from a 15A or 20A, 120V branch circuit.

GFCI protection can be integral with the attachment plug or located in the power‑supply cord within 12 in. of the attachment plug, or listed cord set incorporating GFCI protection.
