Q. Is there any allowance in the NEC to locate receptacles in dwelling units where it is convenient for furniture layout or the designer’s wishes, if the required number of receptacles is installed?

A. No. A receptacle outlet must be installed so no point along the wall space will be more than 6 feet (measured horizontally) from a receptacle outlet [210.52(A)].
