What’s Wrong Here? Hint: Bend and Flex PVC Conduit

Aug. 25, 2021
Think you know how this installation violates the NEC?

Hint: bend and flex PVC conduit

Why bother using any clips when the PVC conduit can simply be flexed and bent, then shoved into the hole in the eaves?

PVC conduit is required to be secured and supported per Sec. 352.30. According to Sec. 352.30(A), PVC conduit must be securely fastened within 3 ft of each box or other conduit termination. In addition, ½-in. through 1-in. PVC conduit must be supported every 3 ft per Table 352.30(B). This run of PVC conduit does not comply with any of those requirements. There are zero clips on this conduit. It is simply flapping in the wind right now. Additionally, an expansion fitting should probably have been used here to satisfy the requirements in Sec. 352.44.
