Summary

A common perception is that Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs) can be used to supply backup power. While true, a BESS can only supply backup power if it and its essential loads can isolate from the utility grid. Every facility that has used a BESS for emergency power has required a custom, multi-device, isolation solution to do so … until now.

Join us to explore the benefits that Automatic Interconnection Switches offer for backup and emergency power systems. In this webinar, contractors and project managers will learn:

  • Which National Electrical Code® articles require grid isolation for inverter-controlled power sources such as BESSs
  • How the NEC enables BESSs to power standby and emergency loads directly
  • How the new UL 3008 - Outline of Investigation for Automatic Interconnection Switches for Emergency Systems builds on the field-proven safety requirements of the industry-renowned UL 1008 standard for transfer switches
  • How the newest Automatic Interconnection Switches can streamline the deployment of inverter-powered backup systems and optimize their costs

Participants will have an opportunity to interact with experts that develop the industry’s most advanced emergency power solutions. By attending, contractors, distributors, specifiers, and technicians will be better equipped to help customers attain their most important power resilience, cost, and sustainability goals.

Speakers

Robert “Benny” Benavidez
National New Energy Landscape Business Development Manager
ASCO Power Technologies

Benny began his career with ASCO in 2013, starting in the sales development program. He has held several positions the past 10 years including sales, marketing, and strategy. His concentration has traditionally been in mission critical applications – specifically designing electrical system with emergency standby power systems.

His focus now resides in the New Energy Landscape (NEL) – the fast adoption of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), the transitioning distribution system (AC to DC), and the requirements of Load Management. Benny is focused on market trends, disruptions, and collaborating with Schneider Electric teams to solve the challenges faced by the partner and end user communities.

Victor Bonachea
Director of Product Strategy
ASCO Power Technologies

Victor Bonachea is the Director of Product Strategy at ASCO Power Technologies. He has 12 years of tenure with ASCO, where he began as an Applications Engineer quoting, supporting, and implementing transfer switch solutions with customers and sales teams across the world. He then shifted into a Product Management path where he has been involved with product development for new switching solutions. His experience concentrates around the applications and architectures for power system/equipment control and their monitoring systems, including work on several patents.
Victor received a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering and a Masters in Engineering Management with Honors from the New Jersey Institute of Technology with specializations in power, controls, and project management.

Victor has been involved with IEEE for 15 years where he is currently a Senior Member and was awarded the 2019 PES Outstanding Engineer Award for North Jersey. Today, he continues his IEEE affiliation with the IAS & PES Societies and most recently has begun participating in updates to the P3005.4 Emergency Power Reliability Standard (previously known as the Orange Book).
