Electrical Fire Kills Park Animals

More than a dozen animals at an animal park in South Carolina died as a result of an electrical fire last week. The animals suffered from smoke inhalation after an electrical short in the primate barn caused the fire.

According to the Greenville Times, the Holly Springs Fire Department determined that the fire originated in the primary corridor. Investigators found the remains of burned wires and tripped breakers that were connected to the hallway lighting. The animal staff supervisor of Hollywild Animal Park said it was the kind of fire that can happen anywhere.

Animals that died included: seven lemurs, four chimpanzees, four wolf hybrid puppies, three tortoises, two capuchins, two baboons, two mangabeys, a bear cub, an African crowned crane, and one barn cat.
