EC&M and PowerQuality E-Zine Present the "Aug. 14 Blackout: Causes, Results, and Preventative Measures" Seminar

Electrical engineers, designers, contractors, and plant/facility maintenance personnel can learn how to combat power outages and maintain profitability at a one-day seminar on Nov. 3, 2003, at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, Calif. Attendees can discover the "what," "when" and "where" of the Aug. 14 blackout, which was considered the worst power outage in U.S. history.

Guest speakers include:

• Dan Sobajic, director of grid reliability and power markets for EPRI, who will discuss the events leading up to, during, and after the Aug. 14 blackout, along with a descriptive analysis of the U.S. power grid.

• Mark McGranaghan, vice president of consulting services for EPRI-PEAC, who will present the various types of power quality and power reliability products and discuss their performance attributes and applications.

• John DeDad, editorial director for the Primedia Business electrical group publications, who will present various power distribution design options, their components and respective performance characteristics, and analyses of costs vs. performances.
