Answer: The receptacle must be located in the space adjacent to the space occupied by the dishwasher, not behind the dishwasher.
Explanation: Section 422.16(B)(5) of the 2020 NEC requires the receptacle to be located in the adjacent cabinet space. Language was also added in this edition to require protection for the cord where it passes through an opening in the cabinet.
