The National Lighting Bureau (NLB) recently released an online panel discussion on ultraviolet (UV) light applications and its boom in popularity. Moderated by NLB Executive Director Randy Reid, the discussion also features Jim Colantoni, Puro Lighting; Kevin Matthews, Signify; and Robert Soler, BIOS Lighting.
The discussion started off with specifying the differences between UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C light. UV-C has the most germicidal effects, the leading reason why UV lighting has become so popular. The experts proceed to discuss the risks and potential hazards of utilizing UV-C technology improperly, which is why correct design and use of UV-C lighting is vital for it to an effective, safe disinfectant solution.
Additional points of discussion include standards and safety certifications that are available for projects that install UV lighting technologies; safety measures, including proper monitoring and controls; and the future of UV disinfection.
