RACO, a division of Hubbell, offers two sizes of its Old Work Pans. Measuring ½-in. deep, the 4-in. model 297 and 3.5-in. model 290 round electrical boxes are designed to support luminaires on the ceiling or wall in existing or retrofit applications and won’t interfere with existing obstructions in the wall or ceiling. A flange and bracket design allows the boxes to be used on ½- or 5/8-in. drywall without stud mounting. After cutting the proper size hole, users can insert the bracket and tighten the screw to secure the pan in place, while a breakable screw and low-profile wingnut provide clearance for low-profile fixture canopies. Additional highlights include a zinc-plated steel construction; raised ground; and the ability to support light fixtures up to 6 lb. The 297 model provides four ½-in. knockouts for connecting cable, while the 290 model includes two ½-in. knockouts. Fittings are not included.
