DOE Releases New Version of Model Specification for LED Roadway Luminaires

Aug. 11, 2014
Changes include formatting, diagrams and references.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released the latest iteration of its model specification for LED roadway luminaires. The DOE creates model specs to help specifiers make sure all the relevant and necessary details and parameters are included in their specifications. In DOE’s words, the model specification “enables cities, utilities, and other state and local agencies to assemble effective bid documents for LED street lighting products.”

The original version of the Model Specification for LED Roadway Luminaires (Version 1.0) was introduced in a November 2011 webcast. The updated version, 2.0, released last month, includes substantial changes such as streamlined structure and formatting, new diagrams, updated references, and leveraging of LED Lighting Facts program guidance.

Those interested may download the model spec in Microsoft Word format for review. The model spec is considered a "living document" that will be updated as needed to reflect changes in technologies and associated standards, and to incorporate feedback from users. The website includes the option to enter your e-mail address if you would like to be notified of future updates.
