The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) recently published ANSI C136.27, “American National Standard for Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment—Tunnel and Underpass Lighting Luminaires.” This standard covers luminaires used for illuminating roadway tunnels and underpasses. Requirements in this standard are limited to general attributes of tunnel luminaires due to the wide variety of designs possible. Based upon the state of the industry, updates to referenced documents, terminal block, terms and definitions have been made in this 2012 edition.

The contents and scope of C136.37-2012 may be viewed at www.nema.org/Standards/Pages/American-National-Standard-for-Roadway-and-Area-Lighting-Equipment-Tunnel-Lighting-and-Underpass-Luminaires.aspx. A hard or electronic copy may be purchased for $46 by visiting global.ihs.com, or contacting IHS by phone at 800-854-7179 (U.S. only) or 303-397-7956 (international).
