Weifield Group Purchases Majority Stake in CGI Electric
Weifield Group recently purchased a majority stake in privately held CGI Electric, an electrical contracting firm with headquarters in Franklin, Tenn. The CGI Electric acquisition allows Weifield Group to enhance the company’s future growth by expanding into the Nashville, Tenn., area and surrounding southern U.S. region.
CGI Electric has operated for 17 years under the leadership of Steve Cathey, head of business development, and Willie (“Chip”) Stokes, senior project manager/estimator. The company services a wide range of electrical construction projects and clients in the Nashville market and surrounding region. The alliance between CGI Electric and Weifield – which now operates under the business name Weifield Group Tennessee – fortifies the existing client base while allowing Weifield to meet its strategic expansion goals.
The new entity is led by CJ Wheeler, Weifield Tennessee general manager; Cathey and Stokes have retained a partial ownership stake in the company, post-Weifield acquisition.
Under the merger, Weifield Group Tennessee will continue to service the acquired existing clients’ projects – pursuant to its contracts. In addition, the company will use CGI Electric’s existing personnel and relationships in this market to grow as the company evolves.
Based in Colorado, Weifield has 600 employees with offices and projects extending into Wyoming, Texas, and, now, Tennessee.
