Nathan Gilbo
Job Title: Site Manager
Company: Renewable Energy Systems (RES)
Location: Broomfield, Colo.
Age: 28
Years on the Job: 4
Interests: Investing in real estate, raising beef cattle, spending time at the lake, and riding his Harley motorcycle

Nathan Gilbo enjoys the fast-paced nature and ever-changing environment of the electrical industry, which forces him to stay on his toes. Gilbo, who is currently a site manager for Renewable Energy Systems (RES), launched his career with a consulting firm. When a field engineer position opened up, however, he jumped at the opportunity.

Gilbo was born and raised and currently resides in Moriah, N.Y., a small town nestled into the side of the Adirondacks, overlooking Lake Champlain. While studying economics at SUNY Albany, he spent his summers working in the construction industry as a laborer and an operator. He considers hands-on training by far the most effective way to learn.

“It provides a unique experience to be ‘in the weeds and daily grind’ of a particular activity and truly understand and appreciate the obstacles you might face,” Gilbo says. “An example would be experiencing hurdles that might not otherwise be seen on a set of plans.”

In his current role, Gilbo is responsible for ensuring optimal communication and collaboration amongst projects in North America. As a problem solver, Gilbo strives to identify and address issues as they arise in the renewable energy industry. Currently, he is supporting the medium-voltage collection work on a repowering wind project — a first for RES in North America. On this job, RES is providing the electrical services during the replacement of older turbines with newer equipment. Looking ahead, he hopes to take on more responsibility as well as new challenges.

“There is no typical day at RES, and I really enjoy that,” Gilbo says. “My favorite thing about my job is how things are constantly changing. There is no way I’d ever be bored or stuck in a regular routine.”
