1,200 Electricians in Ghana Taking Certification Exams

More than 1,200 electricians in Ghana are taking part in an examination to receive certification. The examinations, which are carried out twice a year, are part of measures being adopted by the government through the Energy Commission to curb the spate of fire outbreaks in the country, according to StarFm Online, a Ghana News site.

Improper electrical wiring has been blamed for many of the outbreaks in the West African country. This is the sixth of such exams which started in 2013, and so far, over 3,000 electricians have received certification from the Energy Commission.Janet Quaye, a Deputy PRO at the Commission, said the public should only engage the services of professional electricians to undertake wiring of their facilities. She said the Commission “has in the past sensitized the public to engage certified electrical wiring professionals to undertake electrical wiring in Ghana.” To this end, the outfit decided to certify interested electricians across the country “to get rid of quack electricians who go round doing shoddy works.” The certified professionals qualify to undertake domestic, commercial or industrial electrical wiring and installations. The participants are taken through oral, written and practical examinations at the various centers across the country.
