Nick Barnhill fell in love with the electrical trade during a high school summer job as an electrician’s helper. After working for a family friend who owned an electrical contracting business, he enrolled in a two-year electrical vocational program at Campbell County High School.

Barnhill, who was born in Ft. Thomas, Ky., and raised south of Cincinnati in Melbourne, Ky., became the first person in his family to enter the electrical industry. While employed at Edgewood Electric, he entered the local apprenticeship program through the Home Builders Association (HBA) and continued to attain certifications, including OSHA 10, NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection, and Aerial Lift Safety. He is also certified on excavation equipment, which allows him to self-perform underground installations.

“I believe my training has well prepared me for the large industrial projects that I oversee daily,” Barnhill says.

As a project foreman, he enjoys watching a project from start to finish and seeing all the different trades come together to accomplish the same goal.

“It can be difficult to lead other electricians with different personalities, but at the end of the day, I just want everyone to put their best effort into completing their tasks,” Barnhill says. “I have learned over the years that communication is a key factor in attaining not only personal goals but also company goals as well.”

In the seven years that Barnhill has been in the electrical trade and employed by Edgewood Electric, he has shown tremendous initiative while overseeing multi-million-dollar industrial projects, says Drew White, senior project manager.

“It has been encouraging to see a young man take on the critical responsibilities that come with supervising and directing other employees on these complex projects,” White says. “I look forward to many more years of working with him.”
