What's Wrong Here?

March 8, 2005
Hint: This can be found at a downtown Denver attraction

How well do you know the Code? Think you can spot violations the original installer either ignored or couldn't identify? Here's your chance to moonlight as an electrical inspector and second-guess someone else's work from the safety of your living room or office. Joe Tedesco, who has a knack for finding shoddy electrical work, did the dirty work and found this mess. Now it's your turn to identify the violation.

Find the Answer

Answer:

Starting with this issue I promised myself I would tell everyone where I found each hazard in hopes that the right person would see the violation and make the necessary corrections. I also found more than a dozen of this same type of installation on California St. in Denver. In fact, this type of damaged receptacle seems to be all too common on many a public streets. It’s a violation of several sections of Art. 406, Receptacles, Cord Connectors, and Attachment Plugs (Caps).
