The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General Selects Compu Dynamics to Consolidate Data Centers

A key element of the project involves the design and deployment of a new voice/data network

Sterling, Va.-based Compu Dynamics recently announced that it has been selected by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General (USPS OIG) to consolidate four of its data centers into one new state-of-the-art facility. The new data center will save significant operating costs while increasing capacity and energy efficiency. A key element of the project involves the design and deployment of a new voice/data network, and the physical relocation of all USPS OIG information technology assets into the condensed consolidated data center.

Compu Dynamics will complete the new data center in just ten months in two phases so as to not disrupt current operations. Starting with a statement of the USPS OIG’s requirements, Compu Dynamics’ design-build team of design consultants and data center infrastructure specialists will handle every aspect from initial planning to design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and IT migration. The new data center will incorporate energy saving technologies such as modular power systems and high density in-row cooling.

“With this award, the USPS OIG has validated our approach to planning and delivering state-of-the-art consolidated data centers in only a few months incorporating the best-of-breed infrastructure solutions,” says Stephen B. Altizer, president of Compu Dynamics. “Our nearly three decades of experience building and maintaining some of the world's most critical facilities will ensure that this data center will be designed for reliability and redundancy as well as built-in intelligent maintainability. We’re very pleased to be awarded this project and look forward to completing the entire relocation/consolidation process with minimal disruption to the USPS OIG’s ongoing operations.”

Compu Dynamics will install and commission every link of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure chain including redundant N+1 air conditioning and uninterruptible power systems (UPSs) as well as back-up emergency power generation to keep this highly advanced, secure data center online in the event of a utility power outage. The chilled water system will utilize “free cooling” during the cooler months, saving thousands in electrical energy costs.

“This new data center will serve as a great example of how governmental agencies and organizations can preserve control over their IT infrastructure by consolidating and right-sizing their data centers," says Altizer. "A program like this one can help many government technology managers comply with the federal data center consolidation and energy performance improvement directives. Co-location can be a great solution; however, some of our clients need more hands-on control of their data.”

For these organizations, Compu Dynamics can offer fully virtualized data centers with the connectivity and capacity to support research, e-commerce, private cloud services, or simply traditional business operations.
