IES Announces Expansion of Communications Division and Major Data Communications Project Wins
The projects include upgrading wireless LAN infrastructures, installing voice and data cabling systems, upgrading Ethernet network technology, installing fiber-optic backbone systems and DAS, and other communications and audiovisual build-outs and upgrades
Houston-based Integrated Electrical Services (IES) announced that its Communications Division has recently expanded its operations with the opening of its office in Southern California. Additionally, IES announced that it has won several major data communications projects throughout the country. The projects include upgrading wireless local area network (LAN) infrastructures, installing voice and data cabling systems, upgrading Ethernet network technology, installing fiber-optic backbone systems and distributed antenna systems (DAS), and other communications and audiovisual build-outs and upgrades.
Growth in the technology sector, specifically in data center construction, is presenting IES with opportunities to provide support and scalability of data implementation projects for many Fortune 500 companies, some of which IES already serves in other geographies. In addition to opening the office in Southern California, the Communications Division of IES also announced plans to expand into Atlanta. The division is headquartered in Tempe, Ariz.
“We are pleased that several high-profile customers have requested our services,” says Michael Caliel, IES president and CEO. “Each gives companies a provider with an outstanding critical facility resume and a highly regarded safety process to support a spectrum of their low-voltage project plans all over the country.”
Projects that the IES Communications Division has supported include:
- Upgrading the wireless LAN infrastructure for the University of Phoenix, one of the nation’s premier online and on-campus university systems. The project encompasses more than 350 sites across the country, including services such as communications and audiovisual build-outs and upgrades for the campuses and data center as well as corporate facility support.
- Installing a voice and data cabling infrastructure for a new multi-use facility at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The new facility will house training, simulation laboratories, a centralized utilities and services building, and office space to accommodate up to 350 people in cleared and secured areas.
- Upgrading network technology at various Roanoke, Va., City Public Schools with the installation of Category 6 rated Ethernet cables to support higher technology needs in the classrooms.
- Installation of a fiber-optic backbone system to 35 telecommunications rooms and upgrades of the communications network to Category 6-rated Ethernet cables for Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. IES is also assisting in the installation of a DAS, putting in place the conduit, coaxial cable and single mode fiber-optic cable.
