Retirements, Promotions, Hires, and Recognitions in 2008

Bob Drinkward stepped down from the board of directors at Bergelectric Corp. (No. 6), Los Angeles. Ken Bertalan, senior VP of construction, San Diego region, and Eddie Billig, senior VP of construction, Los Angeles region, became the newest members of the board of directors.

Indianapolis-based ERMCO, Inc. (No. 45) promoted David Peterson to VP of business development and marketing.

Rollie Stephenson, CEO and president, and Rick Schinke, executive VP, both of Faith Technologies (No. 19), Appleton, Wis., were nominated for the Patriot Award by employee Mike Schmaling, who serves with the Wisconsin National Guard. The Patriot Award is given by the National Committee for Employer Support of the U.S. Air Force National Guard and Reserve (ESGR) in recognition of employers whose policies and practices are supportive of their employees' participation in the National Guard and Reserve. All awards originate from nominations by individual reserve members. Also, the firm expanded its safety department with the promotion of Shawn Lampson from safety intern to assistant safety director and the relocation of Joe Amara, assistant safety director, to Atlanta. In its information systems group, the company hired Shawn Massey as desktop administrator and promoted Eric Peik from PC support technician to systems administrator. In its specialty systems department, Mark Ruhland moved from systems administrator to network systems engineer.

Larry C. Brookshire, chairman and CEO of Fisk Corp. (No. 7), Houston, received the Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year 2008 Award” in the Real Estate & Construction category in the Houston and Gulf Coast area. The award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who are building and leading dynamic, growing businesses.

Meredith Zdon, chief operating officer of Power Design, Inc. (No. 25), St. Petersburg, Fla., was awarded “Business Woman of the Year” by the Tampa Bay Business Journal. In addition, the firm hired Chris Bayer as senior project manager to head up the company's projects and expansion in the Mid-Atlantic region.
