Cambridge, Mass.-based Camp Dresser & McKee, Inc. (No. 7) supported the STEM initiative, which promotes careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. The Cambridge office hosted four students from The Engineering School, located in the Hyde Park Education Complex, and each student shadowed an employee. In addition, the firm was ranked in the Top 50 Companies to Work For in Minority Engineer magazine's 18th Annual Top 50 Employers survey.

Newport Beach, Calif.-based FBA (No. 39) was honored with two California Construction Best of 2009 awards from McGraw-Hill Construction, New York, for the Auditorium and Bell Tower Renovation at the Huntington Beach Union High School District and the Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District Division Three.

Portland, Ore.-based Glumac (No. 29) worked in partnership with fellow Portland-based architectural firm Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects LLP on a 22-story, 550,000-sq-ft building comprising retail, office, residential, and underground parking space. The project is on track to achieve the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) New Construction (NC) and Commercial Interiors (CI) Platinum certifications. Also, Steven Straus, the firm's president of engineering, was appointed to the Portland Development Commission's Board of Commissioners.

ZweigWhite, Wayland, Mass., and Stagnito Media, Deerfield, Ill., recognized Glen Allen, Va.-based Hankins and Anderson (No. 26) as the Best Multidiscipline A/E Services Firm to Work For in the United States. PSMJ Resources, Inc., Newton, Mass., nominated the firm for its Circle of Excellence.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) named Omaha, Neb.-based HDR (No. 11) a Green Power Partner. The Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program that supports organizational procurement of green power by offering expert advice, technical support, tools, and resources.

Lenexa, Kan.-based Henderson Engineers, Inc. (No. 21) was honored as Engineering Firm of the Year by the American Subcontractors Association Kansas City (ASAKC), Kansas City, Mo.

Rock Island, Ill.-based KJWW Engineering Consultants (No. 24) received the Eminent Conceptor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois, Springfield, Ill., for its Business Instructional Facility project, which was designed for the College of Business at the University of Illinois, Champaign, Ill.

Hugh Nash, a partner with San Francisco-based Mazzetti Nash Lipsey Burch (No. 27), was named a Fellow in the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (FASHE) by the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE). Principal Rebecca Boulter was appointed to serve on a code advisory committee for the California Building Standards Commission. Boulter will serve on the Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical and Energy Committee, one of six building codes committees that review the technical merit of building standards proposed by state agencies every year and provide recommendations to the commission.

New York-based Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) (No. 4) received three awards from the Washington chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) as part of the organization's 2009 Engineering Excellence awards competition. The firm received a gold award in the studies, research, and consulting engineering services category for its work on Sound Transit's Regional Transit System Plan. PB also received a silver award in the transportation category for its work on the South Lake Union Streetcar.

Seattle-based Sparling (No. 31) made the list of medium companies for Washington's 100 Best Companies to Work For 2009, sponsored by Seattle Business magazine. In addition, the firm was named the second-best medium-sized company to work for in Oregon for 2009 by Oregon Business magazine. The firm was awarded two silver awards at the 2009 American Council of Engineering Companies — Washington (ACEC-WA) Engineering Excellence Awards. The USGBC has awarded the University of Washington Jones Playhouse Theatre a LEED-NC Gold rating for which the company provided electrical engineering, telecommunications voice and data cable, and technology infrastructure design.

Joseph M. Good, III, LC, FIES, IALD, LEED AP, principal lighting and theatre designer for Salt Lake City-based Spectrum Engineers (No. 37), was named a Green Pioneer by Utah Business during the magazine's first Utah Green Business Awards. In addition, Good was honored with his third international GE Lighting Award and a national-level IES Illumination Award of Merit.

Seven projects on which Edmonton, Canada-based Stantec (No. 5) worked received a total of nine awards in the Consulting Engineers of Alberta 2009 Showcase Awards program.

The USGBC awarded a Gold LEED certification to the Commodore Barry School in Philadelphia, on which New York-based STV (No. 10) was the construction manager. The company received accolades for three of its projects from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) New York 2009 Engineering Excellence Awards. STV President Milo E. Riverso, Ph.D., P.E., was named to McLean, Va.-based Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) National Board of Directors. STV, doing business in North Carolina as STV/Ralph Whitehead Associates, received the 2009 Henry A. Stikes Grand Conceptor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) North Carolina Chapter for the South Corridor Light Rail Transit System Lynx Blue Line project.
