SIUE Women Engineers Open House
The Women Engineers at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (WE@SIUE) Open House is set for Saturday, March 23, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the School of Engineering Building. The event is sponsored by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) in conjunction with the School of Engineering.
The Open House allows prospective female students to discover the many opportunities available within the school. Students will attend sessions presented by the Offices of Admissions and Student Financial Aid, the Career Development Center, and two engineering majors of their choice.
“Engineering is an extremely rewarding profession, especially for women, who comprise only 15% of today’s engineering workforce,” said Hasan Sevim, dean of the School of Engineering. “This event provides female high school students the chance to discover exciting career possibilities in engineering. The SIUE SWE students can play a significant role in recruiting future female engineers who will bring fresh, creative ideas and perspectives to the industry.”
Separate panels of professional female engineers and current SIUE female students will be available for questions. Throughout the day, students will be able to interact with engineering professionals, students and university faculty. The Society of Women Engineers will host a lunch with a keynote speaker.
