West Virginia Marina Disconnecting Electrical Boat Slips

Aug. 8, 2014
Stonewall Jackson Marina cannot afford the upgrades required by state law passed last year.

A marina in Roanoke, West Virginia, is disconnecting all of its electrical boat slips on Dec. 1. Stonewall Jackson Marina cannot afford the upgrades required by state law passed last year, according to a report in The Washington Times.

A spokesman for the marina said it would unplug 92 boat slips. The law requires boat docks in public waterways to have ground-fault circuit interrupters that disconnect electrical circuits when safe levels are surpassed. It goes into effect Jan. 1, 2015, the report said.

The law is named for Michael Cunningham, a 15-year-old who was shocked and drowned in 2010 after he grabbed a houseboat ladder.
