Lightning Knocks Out Power at San Luis Obispo Airport

Lightning hit the San Luis Obispo Airport during thunderstorms on Wednesday, knocking out power and the airport's runway and taxiway lights. CalFIRE responded to the Airport Tower, which was briefly evacuated amid concern of a possible electrical fire caused by the lightning strikes, but nothing was found.

According to a report from KCOY, at least three lightning strikes hit the tower, causing disruptions for travelers. The power outage prevented take-off or landings at night until further notice.

Flight arrivals and departures were expected to resume at first light Thursday morning. Its unknown how long it will take to repair the runway and taxiway lights in order to resume service at night.
