EMCOR Group, Inc.’s San Diego branch of its Dynalectric Co. subsidiary was part of a team that received a Design-Build Merit Award from the Design Build Institute of America (DBIA), as part of its 2012 National Design-Build Awards program.  The award was for superior performance on the emergency department expansion project at the Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center in San Diego. Dynalectric, a premier electrical contractor serving Southern California, is a subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc.

The Sharp Chula Vista Emergency Department expansion doubled capacity to 48 beds, and involved approximately 4,000 square feet of new and 8,000 square feet of renovated space to the existing emergency department. Dynalectric performed the entire electrical installation, including expansion of the existing electrical distribution by adding onto the emergency and normal power systems, as well as a new section for the motor control center. The patient rooms were completely re-installed and phased to maximize usable space for the hospital during construction.  A new lighting system, lighting controls, new fire alarm system, new nurse call system, and new public address system were all part of the design build scope.  All work was performed while hospital operations were maintained, involving multiple shut downs and extensive coordination with the hospital and staff.

“The DBIA Award is among the most prestigious in the industry, recognizing top projects from major companies nationwide; it’s extremely gratifying to receive this particular award,” commented Philip Petersen, president and CEO, Dynalectric. "We pride ourselves on consistently providing superior performance on complex and exacting hospital and mission critical projects like the emergency room expansion at Sharp Chula.”
