Reciprocating saw blade

Sept. 28, 2015
Rather than featuring one product per day, Editor-in-Chief Mike Eby is scouring through the hundreds of product submissions we receive each month to bring you what he considers the most noteworthy offerings.

When I saw the 3x3 blade from Spyder Tools, my first thought was, why did it take so long for someone to come up with this design? The product features a double-sided cutting surface and rounded tip plus 8% cobalt for enhanced cutting ability.

Spyder Products 3x3 recip saw blade

With three cutting surfaces (the traditional bottom edge, the top, and the rounded tip), the double-edge blade allows for multi-dimensional cuts. This makes a lot of sense to me. I can see this working very well, as you can easily change cutting directions without flipping the saw around. I also really like the rounded tip on this blade. It seems like it would make plunge cut.

And with the addition of the 8% cobalt, the blade can cut wood with nails, pipe, sheet metal, plastic, fiberglass, and other common construction materials.

Manufactured in Germany, the product comes in multiple tooth configurations for a variety of cutting tasks, including: 6 in. – 6x10 TPI, 6 in. – 10x14 TPI, 6 in. – 14x18 TPI, 8 in. – 6x10 TPI, and 8 in. – 10x14 TPI.
