During new construction of dwelling units, what must be provided for communication equipment?
- An outlet.
- A surge protective device grounded to the outside metal water spigot.
- A plywood backboard, minimum ½-in. thick and at least 4 sq ft in area.
- One RJ-45 telephone jack for connection to the local fire department.
As noted in 800.156, "For new construction, a minimum of one communications outlet shall be installed within the dwelling and cabled to the service provider demarcation point." The communications equipment also needs accessible power.
