- MAY 2001. Powering the phenomenal growth of the digital economy can be a daunting task for energy suppliers, who must address energy delivery, power quality, and power reliability and availability issues. Join stakeholders in the digital society, Internet, and telecommunications sectors to explore problems and solutions for serving digital service companies at the Powering E-Business workshop, May 8-9, 2001 in Kansas City, Missouri USA. This is Part 2 of a multi-part workshop series and is hosted by Kansas City Power Light, Sprint World Headquarters, EPRI, and EPRI PEAC Corporation.

The program, entitled "Strategies and Solutions for a Digital World," begins Tuesday, May 8th with sessions that explore the growth of e-business and opportunities for utilities. Panel discussions will round out the day with stakeholder opinions and insight into energy supply, management issues, and conservation with Internet facilities and equipment; emerging technologies for the digital society; and protecting e-business economics: roles of finance, banking, and insurance industries. On Wednesday, May 9th, panel sessions will continue with time designated for open discussion after each panel followed by an afternoon tour of Sprint's e-business facilities.

For those that are interested in observing or becoming part of the National Task Force on Powering the Digital Society, the 2nd meeting will be held on May 10th following the workshop. Observe or become a part of a global "steering" body whose function is to guide research and development activities with a broad outlook into identifying and solving power-related problems with the telecommunications and Internet industries.
