Rosendin Electric, a San Jose, Calif.-headquartered electrical contractor, recently secured a place on this year’s InformationWeek 500, an annual listing of the nation’s most innovative users of business technology. This is the first time Rosendin Electric has been named to the InformationWeek 500 list, recognizing the company’s novelty in applying the latest business information modeling (BIM) and computer-aided design (CAD) technology to building construction.

Over the past year, Rosendin Electric has transitioned from a conventional 2D and 3D modeling system to an interactive BIM/CAD system. The company has developed a working prototype that links its cost-estimating system to its mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) software for accurate, automated cost estimation. The next stage will be to automate the BIM process and integrate production tracking and quality assurance. Ultimately, the company’s goal is to automate the end-to-end construction process for optimum cost controls and estimating accuracy.
