Durham, N.C.-based Cree has been selected to provide energy-efficient LED lighting to Walmart, Bentonville, Ark., for new stores and renovations. Walmart plans to install Cree LRP-38 LED light bulbs in 650 stores during the first year, replacing ceramic metal halide in the produce and electronics departments.

The Cree LRP-38, a PAR38 style LED lamp, was selected for its energy-efficiency, long lifetime, controlled beam, and high color rendition. Designed to last 50,000 hours, the LRP-38 consumes 82% less energy than the 70W ceramic metal halide bulbs it replaces and can last more than five years in a 24/7 operating environment. The unique design of the LRP-38 also reduces glare for customers, focusing attention on the merchandise and not the lighting.
