Fayette Power Project Wins International Award for Reliability, Efficiency

June 2, 2014
EUCG Inc., a global electric utility industry group, ranked FPP second among all coal plants for fiscal years 2008 through 2012.

The Fayette Power Project (FPP) in Texas has been named a top performer in reliability, efficiency and cost management among an international group of coal-fired power plants.

EUCG Inc., a global electric utility industry group, ranked FPP second among all coal plants for fiscal years 2008 through 2012. The awards were announced at EUCG's spring conference in Tampa, Florida.

The awards are based on each generating facility's reliability record and management of operations and maintenance costs. Information was submitted by 23 power member companies representing 96 generating units throughout the United States and internationally.

"FPP has a long history of operating in a cost-effective, environmentally responsible manner and we are proud to be recognized again for those efforts," LCRA General Manager Phil Wilson said. "Our team at FPP works tirelessly to safely provide reliable power to our customers. FPP uses coal from the Powder River Basin in Wyoming, which burns cleaner than other types of coal, and has added scrubbers that significantly reduce emissions."

FPP, located seven miles east of La Grange, provides affordable, reliable electricity to Central Texans. The facility comprises three units capable of generating up to 1,625MW of electricity, enough to serve about 406,000 typical Central Texas homes when the demand for power is highest. The Lower Colorado River Authority and Austin Energy co-own units 1 and 2, and LCRA owns Unit 3.
