We Energies launches power quality service for high-tech customers. We Energies is offering customers a new service designed to meet their power quality needs. In partnership with electrical trade associations, We Energies is launching the Current Resourceâ„¢ Program.

MILWAUKEE - With growing numbers of homes, businesses and industries in Wisconsin relying on sensitive electronic equipment, We Energies is offering customers a new service designed to meet their power quality needs. In partnership with electrical trade associations, We Energies is launching the Current Resource™ Program.

"Just a few years ago, electricity was electricity, and most equipment worked fine as long as the power was flowing," said Jackson Fothergill, We Energies manager of Premium Power Services. "But with today's sensitive electronic equipment, a voltage sag lasting less than a second can shut processes down, costing a business thousands of dollars in expense and lost revenue."

The We Energies electrical distribution system exceeds 99.9 percent reliability, meeting the needs of most customers. However, weather, automobile accidents, wildlife and other factors all contribute to outages and other problems on the system. For most homes and businesses this is just an infrequent and minor inconvenience. The Current Resource Program is designed to help those customers who are sensitive to these occasional voltage variations and momentary interruptions that are a normal part of any integrated power delivery system.

We Energies has jointly developed the Current Resource Program with the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC), the area's two largest electrical trades organizations. The program offers a suite of services to help ensure customers that the electrical environment inside their facility is compatible with their equipment and systems needs.

The We Energies Current Resource Program will focus on four areas of service for customers. We Energies will directly provide:

  • Communication -

    The utility will provide customers with free basic information and tools regarding power quality issues and the Current Resource Program.

  • Education -

    We Energies will offer value-priced educational resources such as seminars and power quality reference CDs for customers and electrical trades.

The electrical trades will deliver:

  • Diagnosis -

    We Energies is working with NECA and ABC to develop a comprehensive for-fee service for diagnosing and recommending solutions for customer equipment and power source compatibility issues.

  • Solutions -

    The existing market of electrical services providers will sell and install the equipment needed to address customer power quality problems.
