Every year, Power Quality magazine recognizes the field's most outstanding individuals by presenting the John Mungenast International Power Quality Award during the PowerSystems World Conference. This year, the award was presented to Alex McEachern.
McEachern is widely known in the industry as a founder of the Basic Measuring Instruments Co. (BMI) and director for WPT, the parent corporation of Dranetz-BMI, Electrotek Concepts, and Daytronic. He holds more than 27 patents that cover such areas as wave-shape detection systems, disk storage methods, electric power-produced harmonics, and earthquake-produced seismic harmonics.
McEachern also has written extensively and is the author of BMI's “Power Signatures Handbook.” He is currently a United States representative for the International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) and a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
