In February, five companies announced the formation of the Alliance for Retail Choice. The founding companies are AES NewEnergy, Green Mountain Energy Co., the New Power Co., SmartEnergy Inc., and Strategic Energy.

Members will advocate the continued development of successful retail energy-choice programs and markets. They will provide a focused voice for competitive energy retailers and their customers in selected public-policy forums at the state and federal levels.
