Book Review – Dranetz-BMI Field Guide for Electrical Energy Management

April 1, 2001
Authors of The Dranetz-BMI Field Handbook for Electrical Energy Management recently revised the publication, which was originally written in the late 1980s. The new edition defines energy and power, shows the reader how utilities measure and bill energy/power usage and how to read and interpret utility bills. It also includes sections on 3-phase power and motor and lightning systems and offers energy-efficient measures that building operators can take to lower their bills.

What's more, the book is a great guide for power quality engineers and utility customers. PQ engineers can use it to answer frequently asked questions about energy usage, cost savings, and measurements. Utility customers can use it to determine cost-saving strategies by better understanding utility charges, technology options, and energy/power fundamentals.

When we consider the events in California, it's clear that power quality is basically about the efficient use of energy. Since energy management may be the key to survival for many industries in the deregulated energy era, this book is a must-read for everyone in the electrical sector.
