WEST KINGSTON, R.I. – August 6, 2002 – American Power Conversion (APC) today announced an expansion of its award-winning Back-UPSÒ family of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) with the introduction of the Back-UPS ES 350 and 500 units. These newly designed units offer USB (Universal Serial Bus) connectivity as well as, battery back up, surge and fax/modem/ DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) surge protection all-in-one device.

Power interruptions or outages can cause problems including keyboard lockups, corrupted data, and lost Internet connections as well as hardware degradation and system crashes resulting in complete data loss.

The Back-UPS ES offers high-level surge protection and provides battery backup for your desktop PC, monitor, and other electronic equipment in case of a power failure. In addition, the unit offers surge protection for up to three non-data peripherals such as printers and scanners.

“Home and office computer users are looking for cost-effective, reliable solutions for protecting their hardware and more importantly their data on their desktops,” said Joe Loberti, general manager, APC Consumer Network Solutions Group. “The Back-UPS ES provides complete, affordable, all-in-one power protection which includes file saving, auto-shutdown software to increase overall system reliability.”

The Back-UPS ES was designed in a compact, strip-shaped form factor and is wall-mountable. The unit comes equipped with USB connectivity for Windows (XP, 2000,ME and 98) and Macintosh (OS X) operating systems to provide file-saving, auto-shutdown capability. Six high-powered outlets (three battery plus surge and three surge only outlets) provide protection for additional desktop peripherals and can accommodate two transformer block shaped plugs. The UPS offers user replaceable batteries and incorporates an intelligent battery management system that maximizes battery performance and reliability. The Back-UPS ES has an Equipment Protection Policy of $50,000 (see policy for details) and ships with a Data Recovery Warranty and a free trial Anti-Virus protection software.

The Back-UPS ES 350 unit will supply up to 19 minutes of runtime for a typical computer system and the Back-UPS ES 500 will supply up to 40 minutes of runtime. These runtimes give users the ability to work through most outages and have plenty of time to save programs and shutdown safely.

APC’s new Back-UPS ES 350 and 500 units are currently available in North America and carry a suggested retail price of $39.99 and $59.99 USD.
