What it's not: A new crown for the Statue of Liberty.
What it is: The world's largest free-hanging chandelier, according to Meyda Lighting, builder of the 7,000-lb (3.5-ton) luminaire. Measuring 34 feet in diameter and 17 feet in height, the chandelier is being custom crafted of steel, glass, and acrylic for a performing arts theater in Yorkville, N.Y. Assembled in eight sections of tubular steel trusses as well as more than a dozen sections of other steel trusses, framework, and decorative embellishments, the company says its candlelights will be illuminated with more than 200 medium-base LED lamps.
