Measuring More Safely and Efficiently

Nov. 22, 2016
Look at your PMs for several pieces of critical equipment.

Today’s industrial-grade digital multimeters (DMMs) are designed with many safety features. If you’re using one of these, it is not the weak link in the safety chain. That assumes your test leads are in good condition and you are using a correctly rated meter for the location.

These meters are also designed with features that help improve the efficiency of making the needed measurements. One strategy, for example, is combining commonly performed measurements onto one device. As with safety, the DMM isn’t your weak link in the efficiency chain.

So what’s the weak link? It’s opening covers or enclosure doors to take those measurements. This takes time and exposes workers to increased energy levels.

Look at your PMs for several pieces of critical equipment. How many voltage measurements do you count? How much time per asset does it take to make those measurements, from start to finish? How would you like that time to shrink to mere seconds?

The solution is to install permanent systems that feature panel-mounted displays and that measure everything called for in the applicable PMs.
