The most effective way to get the resources needed to correct the deficiencies in the typical CMMS implementation is to find a champion and mentor in the executive ranks. The plant manager is probably your best contact for getting access to that person.
But how do you get the plant manager onboard?
Think about what keeps your plant manager up at night. Your plant manager is mostly concerned about meeting revenue targets while staying within budget. Things that lower revenue or cost money get his attention. And so do things that increase revenue and reduce costs.
What you must do is show specific ways that specific expenditures, if added to the budget, can do one or both of two things:
- Increase output (revenue).
- Reduce scrap and/or downtime costs.
For a CMMS, this is not hard to do. Your CMMS vendor can help you with the required case study data; ask for assistance. Tell the plant manager, “We need someone higher up to fight for a budget change so we have the resources to get you these kinds of numbers. What other information would help you find that person?
