Electrical Alliance to present latest information about NFPA 70E and NEIS standards in October

Building owners and managers, engineers, specifiers, general contractors, and insurers can learn about electrical safety and quality installation in the commercial building industry at two upcoming no-cost educational sessions developed by The Electrical Alliance, a cooperative effort between the electrical contractors of the Washington, D.C. Chapter of National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and skilled craftsmen of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 26. Focusing on compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E safety requirements and NECA’s National Electrical Installation Standards (NEIS) program, the two sessions are being offered in conjunction with the 2013 NECA Convention and Show in Washington, D.C., to be held October 12-15 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

The 70E session, being held on October 14 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., will illustrate how owners, management companies, general contractors, and insurers can reduce their liability from electrical incidents in their facilities. Vince Miller, CSP, safety expert and Washington, D.C. Chapter of NECA safety director, will provide an understanding of the requirements relevant to electrical equipment arc flash surveys, how to use the survey results to protect workers and property, and options relevant to equipment modification that would reduce associated financial risks.

The NEIS session, being held on October 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., will provide insight about NECA’s NEIS program and how it can add value to any organization’s construction project. Presenter Michael J. Johnston, NECA’s executive director of standards & safety, will provide a detailed review of NECA 1 Standard for Good Workmanship in Electrical Construction, highlight segments of a few popular specific titles, and explain how they can effectively be applied. Attendees will also receive a complimentary copy of NECA-1-2010 "Standard for Good Workmanship in Electrical Contracting."
