Business Briefs for the Week of Nov. 16, 2009

EMCOR Group, Suntech Power, ILSCO

  • Norwalk, Conn.-based EMCOR Group recently announced that its Dynalectric subsidiary, Washington, D.C., has been awarded a contract for the installation of electrical systems for the new U.S. Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, D.C. Dynalectric will be responsible for the installation of the electrical systems for the nine-level, 1,300,000-sq-ft base office building and two parking garages and for the installation of the electrical systems required at a 65,000-sq-ft Central Utility Plant, including relocation of existing site utilities, as well as a tunnel connector to the main building.

  • Suntech Power Holdings Co. announced that its first U.S. manufacturing plant for the growing North American market will be located in the Greater Phoenix area. The plant will have an initial production capacity of 30MW and is expected to begin production in the third quarter of 2010.

  • Cincinnati-based ILSCO was selected as one of three Suppliers of the Year at the annual IMARK meeting in San Antonio. In addition to the Supplier of the Year in the blue category, ILSCO was also presented awards for leadership in sales, excellence in marketing and communications, and superior customer service.

  • Coopersburg, Pa.-based Lutron Electronics, announced an initiative to broaden the use of its existing technologies that are used in many “whole home” and “whole building” lighting systems. The company hopes to move quickly to help connect power utilities smart metering to the electrical infrastructure in both residential homes and commercial spaces. The initiative will also include focused, new technology development efforts led by a newly formed Energy Solutions Business Unit.

  • Winter Park, Fla.-based Palmer Electric Co. announced the expansion of its residential North Florida office, the opening of its new residential office in Central Florida, and the signing of a new homebuilder client, Lennar Homes. "Both the North Florida office expansion and the St. Cloud opening allow us to better serve our homebuilder customers,” says Don Stebbins, VP residential division, Palmer Electric Co.
