Industrial electrician wins race weekend prize

Dan Giffen, Lake Geneva, Wis., recently enjoyed an all-expense-paid trip to the Generac Power Weekend at the Road America race track in Elkhart Lake, Wis. The 15-year industry veteran, a fan of drag racing and NASCAR, and his wife received tickets and hospitality treatment to two of the sport’s top series — the Generac 500 in the American Le Mans Series and the Generac Champ Car Grand Prix.
Giffen currently works as an industrial electrician for Spring Grove, Ill.-based Scot Forge in the company’s machine repair/rebuild department where he helps maintain 65 pieces of equipment as well as retrofits and rebuilds all the company’s machinery. “I’ve never won anything in my life so I was kind of shocked when they called me,” Giffen says. “It was good racing, and it’s a beautiful facility. Generac took care of everything.”
The drawing was open to visitors of the Generac booth in the online EC&M e-tradeshow. With little time to spend at industry events outside of work, Giffen appreciates the accessibility offered by EC&M’s e-tradeshow format. “It’s a neat way of doing things,” Giffen says. “When I can do things on my own terms, that makes it easier.”
